Trek The Japanese Alps and Climb
Mount Fuji:

July, 2018

Japan is one of the undiscovered gems in the hiking world. With mountain huts perched spectacularly in its rugged alps, and hikes that combine scenery, challenge and history, a trip in the Japanese Alps offers variety and satisfaction.

With numerous granite and volcanic peaks above 10,000 feet, all soaring over glacier-carved valleys and gorges filled with thick forests and exotic wildlife, and between all this 420,000 acres of flower-filled meadows, the reality of hiking in Japan will not just surprise, but amaze you.

And this is before you even get into the culture of hiking here. It is a perfect combination of civilized and adventurous, with 44 mountain huts, funicular trains, cable cars, rugged trails, ladders, and even chains.

Oh, and when we’re done we will soak in natural hot springs!

And then we will move on to summit one of the world’s truly iconic peaks, Mount Fuji.

This trip will also include some time in the amazing city of Tokyo (metropolitan population: 38 million), visiting ancient Buddhist temples and legendary fish markets, while also taking advantage of its world-class travel infrastructure, delivering us smoothly from airport to city to village to trailhead.

Trek to Mount Everest Base Camp and the Gokyo Lakes:

April, 2018

Hiking to the doorstep of the world’s highest mountain is arguably the highlight of any trekking adventure in Nepal. But we aren’t even going there via the most popular route; we are adding a side trip to visit the pristine, sacred, and impossibly blue Gokyo Lakes, while adding another mountaintop viewpoint which rivals any in the world.

Sleeping mainly in tea houses along the path, we will ease into the vibrant Sherpa culture, pose alongside friendly herds of yaks, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and run our fingertips through the rush of glacial water — all as we approach that most illustrious of giants, Mt. Everest.

We will also have time to explore Kathmandu, the center of Nepali life for 2,000 years. We will visit several of the city’s best-known sites, including the Pashupatinath temple, a 5th Century Hindu temple famous for its two-tiered golden roof and silver doors. We will also visit the Boudhanath stupa, known for its all-seeing eyes of Lord Buddha.
