Michael J. Fox Foundation & Embark Adventures on Mt. Kilimanjaro
07.20.2013
Portland, Ore. — Embark Exploration Company is pleased to announce that it is partnering with Team Fox, the grassroots fundraising arm of The Michael J. Fox Foundation, to host a group climb up Africa’s highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, to raise money for Parkinson’s research. The eight-day climb will take place in January of 2014.
This will be the second Kilimanjaro trip hosted by Team Fox in a series of adventure trips the Fox Foundation hopes to launch, which could include a trip to Everest Base Camp in Nepal in October of 2014. Mt. Kilimanjaro is 19,341 feet above sea level — the highest free-standing mountain in the world, and one of Embark’s most popular, least technical mountain climbs in the world. Embark and Team Fox are currently seeking more group participants as they work together to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s disease.
“I was lucky enough to be a part of the inaugural Kilimanjaro climb with Team Fox in 2012, which was an amazing experience – summit day is one I will never forget,” says Stephanie Paddock, Senior Associate Director of The Michael J. Fox Foundation. “The team together raised more than $100,000 for Parkinson’s research and we are excited to be working with Embark Exploration Company for our upcoming trip.” Each participant receives a spot on the trip by committing to raising $10,000 for Parkinson’s research.
