Climbing Diamond Peak in Oregon
09.20.2009
Diamond Peak is a small mountain in the Willamette Valley, just a few hours outside of Eugene. It’s a good mountain early in the season, coming up the west side, without being technical. It has a great section for glissading and for ski mountaineering.
The only downside to the entire climb was the sheer volume of mosquitoes located in the forest. Once we were above the timberline, we were fortunate to have peace. We slept just off the road near the base, and started early in the morning. Round trip, I think it took us about 10 hours.
