Description
Located in the southwest corner of the Canadian Rockies, Waterton Lakes National Park is one of Canada’s most striking and underrated hiking destinations. Bordering Montana and Glacier National Park, this remote landscape blends dramatic peaks, turquoise lakes, and wide-open alpine terrain.
This trip is built around a carefully curated series of day hikes, each taking us deeper into Waterton’s wild terrain. Traveling on foot—and even by ferry to access remote trailheads—we experience the park’s most scenic routes, with expansive views over Waterton Lake and the surrounding mountains. Each day builds in intensity and remoteness, offering a rewarding progression that leaves you with a deep sense of accomplishment and a lasting connection to this remarkable place.
Arrive in Calgary and transfer to your hotel. This evening, we gather for a group briefing to review the trek ahead and prepare for the days to come.
After breakfast, meet your guide and travel south to Waterton Lakes National Park. Following lunch, set out on a scenic hike to Summit Lake, climbing a series of switchbacks that open to sweeping views of Waterton Lake and the surrounding peaks.
Today’s hike begins with a gentle approach before climbing steadily through a series of switchbacks toward Summit Lake. As we gain elevation, expansive mountain views unfold, with frequent opportunities to spot mountain goats along the trail.
The effort is rewarded at the lake itself, a striking alpine basin known for its clear waters and resident cutthroat trout. We return to Waterton in the afternoon.
We cross Waterton Lake by boat to reach the trailhead for one of the park’s most iconic hikes. The route climbs from the shoreline through forest and waterfalls, passing through an 80-foot tunnel and up a ladder before reaching stunning Crypt Lake, straddling the U.S.–Canada border. After returning to Waterton, we gather for a farewell dinner.
After breakfast, transfer back to Calgary.
