Nepal: Everest Base Camp – One Recent Climber’s Personal Account

If you’re an information fanatic and just can’t get enough regarding Everest Base Camp we’re proud to profile the personal account of one of our most recent trekkers to Everest Base Camp.

Derick Black happens to be from our home town, and Embark’s headquarters, of Portland, Oregon.  However, it took traveling all the way to East Africa to meet him for the first time in 2018.  He’d just conquered Kilimanjaro and we were there on a site visit.  Little did we know at that time that we’d get the chance to work with him again- this time for a 2020 trek to Everest Base Camp!  Derick is an amazing photographer and you’ll see many of his photos on our website, blog and social media posts because we love them so much.

In addition, he happens to do a great job taking stats of the trek and providing a concise, yet descriptive account of the trek to Base Camp.  Unfortunately (or for some, fortunately) his last few trek days aren’t in his blog as we had to helicopter evacuate the group from Pheriche for fear of them missing some of the last flights out of Nepal due to COVID pandemic.

Here is his blog and astounding photographic take on Nepal with pictures available for purchase: Derek Black Trek to Everest Base Camp with Embark.
