Alaska: Great Northern Territory Adventure

When one contemplates Alaska, visions of glacial expanses and vast mountain wonderlands ensue. This trek will live up to those images and leave you with so much more. Join us on a journey into the vivid wonderland of the mountainous region that emerges just outside Anchorage- we don’t have to go far to unlock the beauty and mystique that Alaska is famous for. Our journey has us crossing high mountain passes, tagging multiple peaks (sometimes more than one in a day) and glimpsing monstrous glaciers and multiple lakes fed by them. You will leave gratified for the memories of a lifetime and fulfilled with our Alaska mountain trekking achievements.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Anchorage

You will arrive in Anchorage and spend a day relaxing at a lodge near downtown. This evening a group dinner will be held to discuss the details of the trip and ensure that everyone is ready for our adventure.

Day 2
Marmot Mountain

After a short 1-hour drive from downtown Anchorage we’ll arrive at Hatchers Pass, nestled in the Talkeetna Mountains. We will embark on a moderately challenging climb to the top of Fish Peak and then continue upward to reach the summit of Marmot Mountain. The group will enjoy beautiful 360-degree views of the surrounding mountain range and overlook the Independence Mine State Historical Park below.

Day 3
McHugh Peak

After a quick 30-minute drive from downtown Anchorage we’ll reach the McHugh Peak trailhead. Located in Chugach State Park, this trail climbs to the top of Turtle Peak (3,019 ft), traverses along a rolling ridge, and ends at McHugh Peak (4,298 ft). The group will enjoy stunning views of the Chugach Mountains, downtown Anchorage, and the Cook Inlet.

Day 4
Crow Pass to Crystal Lake

We’ll begin the day with a 1-hour drive to Girdwood along the Seward Highway. Once we reach the trailhead, the group will embark on a moderately challenging hike through Crow Pass in the Chugach Mountains. The trail features ruins of Brenner Mine, a rocky gorge with waterfalls, alpine meadows, turquoise pools, and a stunning view of Crystal Lake. The group has the option to continue 1-mile further along the trail to Raven Glacier before returning.

Day 5
South Fork Valley to Eagle and Symphony Lakes

We will begin the South Fork Valley trail after a short 30-minute drive from downtown Anchorage. We’ll begin by climbing above the trees and along a ridge before dropping down into the valley. We’ll meander along the South Fork Eagle River, en- joying beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Finally, we cross a short bridge over the river and traverse a boulder field before reaching two pristine glacial lakes.

Day 6
Harding Icefield and Exit Glacier

We’ll start the day early and drive 2.5-hours to Kenai Fjords National Park in Seward. The trail traverses a variety of landscapes– passing several glacial streams, through a rock field, and up to Exit Glacier with amazing mountain views throughout. We complete our Alaskan adventure with an exploration of the Harding Icefield up-close for an unforgettable Alaskan experience.
