Description

Explore the heart of Colorado’s high country on this lodge-based, immersive 5-day trekking adventure. Over the course of 50 miles along the Colorado Continental Divide Trail, you’ll move through sweeping mountain meadows, dense pine forests, and endless high alpine ridges that stretch as far as the eye can see. Along the way, you’ll summit seven named peaks—with options to go even higher for those seeking extra challenge—and experience the exhilaration of moving through some of Colorado’s most iconic terrain.

Our knowledgeable guides will enrich the journey, sharing the natural wonders, geological stories, and human history of the Rocky Mountains, helping you connect with this remarkable landscape on a deeper level. From sunrise ridgeline vistas to quiet alpine valleys, this is a true Colorado adventure—one that challenges the body, delights the senses, and leaves a lasting impression.

We’ll pick you up at Denver International Airport and head straight for the mountains. Once we’ve settled in at the hotel, we’ll gather for a short pre-trip briefing to walk through the days ahead, answer questions, and make sure everyone is dialed in. We’ll wrap up with a quick gear check so you’re fully prepared to hit the trail.

We waste no time getting underway. Though it’s only our first day on the trail, we step straight into the heart of the Continental Divide with two 12,000 ft summits—Russell Peak and Stanley Mountain—rising ahead of us. This opening segment sets the tone for the journey: steady hiking across broad, high-elevation terrain, expansive views in every direction, and the unmistakable feeling of being fully committed from the start. While the terrain is not technical, the altitude and distance demand focus as we cover significant ground along the Divide before descending into our first camp at Vasquez Pass, where we’ll settle in for the night surrounded by wide-open alpine country.

We begin to ramp up both mileage and elevation gain, settling into the rhythm of true mountain travel. This is mountain movement at its finest—flowing westward along the spine of the range, weaving from ridge to ridge and peak to peak as the terrain unfolds beneath our feet. Over the course of the day, we’ll traverse four named summits, spending the vast majority of our time above 11,000 ft, where the air is thin, the views are expansive, and the distractions of the lowlands fall away. The effort is steady and purposeful, rewarded with constant perspective and a deep sense of progression across the landscape.

We’ll make camp high in the alpine at approximately 11,450 ft—one of our highest camps of the journey. If the skies are clear, the evening brings an unforgettable reward: a vast, unfiltered night sky, with stars blazing overhead in a way only high, remote places can offer.

Day 4 is a big one—the longest single day of the journey—and by now you’ll appreciate the value of the previous days spent building rhythm, strength, and confidence at elevation. We’ll start early, taking advantage of the cool morning hours as we settle into a steady, sustainable pace designed for long mountain days. The terrain demands focus and persistence, but the rewards are constant as the landscape opens up around us.

The highlight of the day comes as we climb toward Hassell Peak, the high point of the trip at just over 13,000 ft. From the summit, the scale of the Continental Divide fully reveals itself—layers of ridgelines, distant peaks, and the long arc of terrain we’ve already crossed. It’s a true milestone day: challenging, committing, and deeply satisfying, marking a turning point in both the route and the experience

Today we step away from the high country and descend into a different rhythm, hiking a scenic route from Herman Gulch to Bard Creek. The elevation eases, offering a welcome break from the thin air of the previous days, but the day remains engaging and purposeful with plenty of ground to cover. Lush valleys, flowing water, and expansive views replace the stark alpine, revealing another side of the landscape we’ve been moving through. It’s a chance to let the body recover while still making meaningful progress, soaking in the contrast and appreciating how varied and dynamic this terrain truly is.

The ultimate challenge awaits as we set our sights on the two tallest peaks along the entire length of the Continental Divide—Grays Peak (14,275 ft) and Torreys Peak (14,272 ft). By now, you’ll be fully acclimatized and moving with confidence, ready for the sustained effort these iconic summits demand. The climb is deliberate and demanding, each step earned, as the landscape drops away and the horizon expands with altitude.

Standing atop these fourteeners is an unmatched reward: a sweeping, high-altitude perspective that captures both the scale of the Rockies and the distance you’ve traveled to reach this point. It’s a powerful moment of culmination and reflection—the perfect way to crown five days of purposeful movement, commitment, and immersion along the Colorado Continental Divide.

Your final day in the Colorado Rockies is a moment to pause, breathe, and let the mountains leave their lasting impression. Morning light spills over the peaks as you savor a slow breakfast, the crisp alpine air filling your lungs. Take one last walk through town, linger on a ridge, or simply soak in the panorama that has accompanied you every step of the way. Each trail, each summit, each quiet valley echoes with the story of your journey.

When it’s time to depart, we’ll transfer you back to Denver International Airport, carrying you from these high places to the wider world. And as you leave, you take more than memories—you carry the spirit of the Rockies with you: the whisper of wind along the ridges, the shimmer of sunlight on distant peaks, and the quiet knowledge of what it means to move through this extraordinary landscape under your own power.
