Description
Spend three days on a guided hiking adventure deep in Rocky Mountain National Park. Each day you’ll cover serious ground—moving through dense pine forest, climbing into open alpine meadows, and following roaring cascades beneath the park’s highest peaks. Your guides set the pace and bring the landscape to life with insight into the geology, ecology, and natural history of the Rockies. Evenings bring you back to Estes Park to rest, explore town, and prepare for the next day in the high country. This is a hands-on, earn-your-views way to experience Rocky Mountain National Park.
Once you arrive in Estes Park, you’ll gather that evening at your hotel to meet your guides and go over the days ahead.
On our first day, we’ll dive into the rugged, jagged granite domes of Lumpy Ridge. The trail takes us twisting and turning through a labyrinth of cliffs, gullies, and rocky outcrops, each step revealing new perspectives of the park’s dramatic terrain. Along the way, we’ll reach the stunning Gem Lake, perched near the top of the ridge—a perfect spot to pause, take in the views, and soak up the alpine scenery. But the adventure doesn’t stop there. We’ll continue onward to seek out the improbable “Balanced Rock,” a natural marvel that seems to defy gravity, before winding our way to the Cow Creek Trailhead to close out a full day of high-altitude exploration. Every turn offers a new surprise, making this a first day you won’t soon forget.
Today is one of Rocky Mountain National Park’s quirkiest hikes. From Bear Lake, we’ll hit the trail for an 8.3-mile point-to-point trek that’s mostly downhill—yes, you get to enjoy the rare thrill of a downhill advantage! Along the way, you’ll pass five sparkling alpine lakes and wind your way through the full length of Odessa Gorge, one of the park’s most rugged and jaw-dropping corners. Who says you have to save the best for last?
Get ready to wander through the ancient, glacially carved terrain of Glacier Gorge. Where mighty rivers of ice once roamed, today you’ll find swirling slabs of schist framed by towering peaks. We’ll follow Glacier Creek as it tumbles over carved stone chutes and winds through narrow canyons, eventually reaching Black Lake, cradled by sheer cliffs. If we’re feeling adventurous, we can push higher through a tight canyon to the great cirque above the lake—rewarding us with jaw-dropping views of the sheer rock walls that rise to the high peaks at the top of the gorge.
This is your final day in the Colorado Rockies—a chance to savor the last moments in this incredible landscape. Take it a little slower this morning: enjoy a relaxed breakfast, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and soak up the views one last time. Whether you choose to take a final stroll through town, snap a few last photos, or simply sit and reflect on the adventures of the past days, the mountains will leave their mark. When you’re ready, set off on whatever adventure comes next, carrying the memories— and maybe a little of the Rockies’ spirit—with you.
