New Routes, New Places, New Possibilities

At Embark, some of our favorite adventures start before a trip is fully polished—when the route is still being shaped, the details are still coming together, and the experience feels especially alive.

That is exactly what inspired our new Exploratory Trips.

These are brand-new destinations and routes we’re actively scouting, offered once—or once every few years—as we test-drive what could become a future Embark classic. They are designed for travelers who like being early, saying yes to the unknown, and experiencing a place before it becomes one of our signature departures.

This July, we’re heading to Ladakh, India as one of our newest Exploratory destinations. It is the kind of place that pulls you in with dramatic landscapes, high-altitude beauty, and a sense that adventure is waiting around every bend. For us, it is exactly the kind of destination that belongs in this category: exciting, immersive, and full of possibility.

What makes these trips special is not just where we go, but how we go. Groups stay small, the vibe is curious and adventurous, and you get to be part of the story from the very beginning. Because these departures are still in the “we’re building this” phase, they come with a little extra flexibility and a lot of extra magic—new trails, new logistics, and the occasional on-the-ground pivot to chase the best possible experience.

That spirit is part of the appeal. Exploratory Trips are for travelers who understand that the best adventures do not always come from a fixed script. They come from being open, staying flexible, and trusting the process as something memorable takes shape in real time.

As an added bonus, one of the Embark owners typically joins these departures. As seasoned adventure travelers who have spent years exploring wild places around the world, they bring deep destination knowledge, contagious excitement, and the kind of insight that only comes from true boots-on-the-ground experience.

And Ladakh is just the beginning. In the coming years, we’re also exploring more of Patagonia, Sri Lanka, and the Manaslu Trek in Nepal—destinations that feel like a natural fit for the kind of immersive, adventurous travel we love to create.
