“30 Days in Nepal” Video

05.18.2012

Embark’s 2011 Island Peak group had more than the usual adventure that you’d get from trekking in Nepal. They, along with many other folks, got stuck at Jomsom Airport, which at 8,800 feet is the starting point for treks to the Everest Base Camp region. It’s the only airport in the area, so when it backs up due to weather, things get interesting.

Well, things got interesting in 2011, and our group spent quite a bit longer than anticipated, hanging out in Jomsom. (They were even featured on Portland television.) Most of them hiked out for two days and then got picked up by Nepalese Army helicopters.

One member of the group, Mark Koss, walked about a week to the town of Jiri, which is at the end of the highway from Kathmandu. His walking partner on that trip was a man named Tom Billings, who made a great video of his trip, called “30 Days in Nepal.” It includes scenes of Everest Base Camp, Kala Pattar, and the trek between Jomsom and Jiri.

Tom shared it with Mark, and now we’re sharing it with you.
