Across the Himalayas … on a Tricycle?
11.10.2011
Sometimes you just have to step back and be amazed.
It’s one thing to trek in the Himalayas, which we at Embark are fond of doing, whether it’s to Mount Kailash in Tibet, Mera Peak in Nepal, or the Yeti Trail in Bhutan.
But for today, our hats are off to two Tasmanians who have ridden recumbent tricycles 1,100 meters across the Himalayas, from Lhasa to Kathmandu. They even made it to Mount Everest Base Camp!
The trip was a fundraiser for Braille Without Borders, and there’s yet another level to the story. Paul Pritchard was a world-class climber until a 1998 brian injury left him paralyzed on the right side of his body. He spent two years learning to walk and talk again, and now he’s ridden his tricycle across the Himalayas.
The adventurous spirit just won’t die!
