48 Hours in Thimphu, Bhutan

A recent travel article in Reuters offers a good description of a weekend in Thimphu, Bhutan. While we are more about trekking and adventure travel in Bhutan, we also love seeing the culture there, especially as it starts to change in response to letting the outside world in.

As the story says:

Bhutan’s capital of Thimphu may be the only world capital without a traffic light, but the largest city in this remote Himalayan kingdom does boast some 5-star hotels, an increasing range of restaurants, and several nightclubs.

The story focuses a lot on restaurants and clubs and hotels, but it does mention the kind of things we’d see and do in a cultural tour of Bhutan: the National Handicraft Emporium, the National Memorial Chorten, and an archery competition.
